Robert Blue and Susan Galloway, a husband and wife team, work in a studio just outside of Woodstock, Illinois. They were married in September of 1982, and began building their studio and gallery in May 1983. The studio became operational in 1984, and the gallery opened in 1986 in Franklinville. Their love of pottery is evident in their work. Their love for each other brought Shannon (1988) and Alex (1990) into the world and a family was created. The gallery may be visited whenever they are home. Tours and purchases are by chance or appointment.

Bob and Susan work extensively in stoneware clay for production pottery. Susan’s pottery involves the use of a gas fired reduction kiln, and Bob’s method of working utilizes both gas and an oxidation fired electric kiln; each method results in a different and unique style of ware. Together they collaborate on work creating a third style of stoneware pottery. Each has the experience of working with salt-fired stoneware, porcelain, and raku through Master’s programs in the Midwest. Susan has recently expanded her range to interior and exterior sculpture that has had recognition in many national exhibitions. “Our work embodies skill, insight, and respect for both the material and process. It is useful in the kitchen, on the table, or as an accent to decor. The warmth and beauty crafted into each pot will touch those who use it. Its artistry functions best through daily use, through intimate acquaintance.”

All functional ware has been tested for safe use in a dishwasher, microwave, and can be used in an oven with proper care, but is not recommended for direct heat (stovetop). Each piece is lead free, non-toxic, unique, and hand crafted. Vases hold water without leaking but may sweat if water is not room temperature. Most of the pottery produced is stoneware unless otherwise marked; with proper care stoneware will last thousands of years.

Enjoy the fruits of our labor; we enjoyed making each piece.
